Weekly Memory Verses

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2 : 15

Basic Bible Knowledge

This course of 20 lessons entitled “Basic Bible Knowledge” is planned for those who are seeking admission to the Church of Jesus Christ, either by Baptism or Reaffirmation (for those who had been baptised in infancy or childhood). Each course is designed to run for 20 weeks, during which time the student will have received sufficient instruction to know what it means to be a Christian and to fully appreciate the meaning of the two sacraments, Baptism and The Lord’s Supper.

This course is only an introductory course to prepare the student to study more deeply into God’s Word and discover for himself the wonderful truths in the Bible.

Each student is strongly recommended to have a good study Bible (King James Version) for his personal use, a notebook and red/blue colour pencil. A good Concordance and Bible Dictionary are certainly helpful and strongly recommended for the serious student.

Helpful Guide to grow spiritually:

1. Cultivate a regular habit of reading God’s Word daily coupled with prayer. Begin with 30 minutes per day. This is time well spent. You will not regret it.

2. Find a quiet place so that you can be free from any distraction. Try it out early in the morning before sunrise when all is peaceful and quiet.

3. Pray earnestly to God: “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law” (Psalm 119:18) Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand and apply.

4. Read the Bible portion for the day once, twice or more times. Each reading makes you understand more. Underline with your red/blue pencil those parts which have special meaning to you.

5. Think and meditate. Ask yourself: “What is the lesson for me from God’s Word today?” Is there a promise I can claim? Or a warning I should heed? Or a commandment I ought to obey? Or a sin I need to confess?

6. Ask the Lord to help you practise and obey what you have learnt. “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105) Let God’s Word shine the way ahead for you. This is the way. Walk in it.

7. Take note of any difficult portion which needs clarification. Come with questions for further discussion together as a class. May the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth.

  • The course is conducted on a weekly basis.

Memory Verse

And he said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
